But I am glad they did. I picked up a bottle last month and have used it almost everyday. And that includes days when I wash my hair at night and let it air dry. The bottle says it is for helping to eliminate frizz and fly aways. And it does that whether I blow dry my hair or let it air dry. One product being able to do that with one product makes it a winner in my book. The fewer things on my vanity.

I made it through the month of January. I didn't make it as far as I would like with the fitness goal. But I did lose 2.5 pounds and a total of 1.5 inches. It is a good way to start out the year and gives me more motivation to keep going. I hit my goal of no cokes for the whole month. And I am going to get back on that kick after falling off yesterday during training. I did well with eating healthy and not eating out but once a week and even made it two weeks without eating out at all.
I saw a couple ideas to keep me motivated on Pinterest. One was putting a dollar in a jar for each workout completed and I was doing that but I don't keep a lot of cash on me so that was getting hard.

So I decided to combine the two ideas. I am putting a stone in a jar for each workout I complete. Each stone will be worth a dollar. I have it sitting on my dresser so it is a reminder every day.

I saw a calendar on Megan's blog call Fab AB February. It is a calendar of ab workouts for 6 days a week. I am a little behind and will have to work to catch up on the four days I have already missed.

My goals for February are to continue with the workouts trying to get in 4 a week. And continue keeping cokes out of my diet. Not to mention doing the monthly ab challenge above.
I also want to continue with my goal of cleaning one room a month and getting rid of the junk. I got my office done in January and it feels great to have it complete. It is a lot less stressing to do one room a month than trying to clean the whole house over a weekend of spring cleaning.
And of course have fun in New Orleans for Mardi Gras.

Chicken Couscous Pilaf

I pulled a recipe out I have not made in a couple years. I got it from a magazine years ago but can't tell which one but I am leaning towards Weight Watchers magazine. Not to mention a quick and easy one for a week night. I needed something quick to make Sunday night with all I am trying to get done before 2 weeks of craziness.

Chicken Couscous Pilaf

1 1/4 c. water

1 c. fresh corn kernels

1 (5.7 oz) box herbed chicken seasoned couscous

1 (10 oz) pkg. sliced southwest seasoned chicken strips

1 beef stock tomato, seeded and chopped

2 tbsp. chopped fresh cilantro

Combine water, corn, and seasoning packet with the couscous box in a large saucepan;

bring to a boil. Stir in the couscous.

Remove the pan from the heat and let stand, covered, until the liquid is absorbed and the couscous is tender, about 5 minutes.

Fluff the couscous mixture with a fork;

stir in the chicken.

Serve at once sprinkled with tomato and cilantro.

I couldn't find the southwestern chicken strips so just got the plain ones. But it was still good. I forgot about the tomato. I thought I remembered everything I needed when I made my list.

Heels

I have bought several pairs of heels in the last couple of months. Though I am not good about wearing them. Sunday S and I went to see One for the Money and then stopped by Dillard's afterwards. They were having a shoe sale. Sadly I didn't see any boots I liked and had given up finding a thing in my size that was cute.. S found a pair of nude heels she fell in love with and we carried them around the store looking through the other departments. When we went back to shoes to purchase them turns out I had missed a rack and a pair I liked were on it in my size.

I don't know when I will wear them. I work in a casual office. S said wear them with jeans to work. So maybe this week with the 60s for a couple of days.

Cinnamon Streusel Coffee Cake

I grew up with this being cooked in our house and at the grandmother's. And probably one of the reasons the first cookbook I bought in college was the Bisquick cookbook. I was craving it this weekend and decided to pull it out and make it. With training happening this week I am taking it into the office to share as I in know way need to eat it all on my own.

Cinnamon Streusel Coffee Cake

2 c. bisquick

2/3 c. milk or water

2 tbsp. color

1 egg

Streusel topping

1/3 c. bisquick

1/3 c. packed brown sugar

1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon

2 tbsp. firm margarine or butter

Heat oven to 375°. Grease a round pan, 9x1 1/2 inches. Make streusel topping; set aside.

Stir remaining ingredients until blended. Spread in pan.
Sprinkle with topping.

Bake 18 to 22 minutes or until golden brown.

For the Streusel topping

Mix bisquick, brown sugar, and cinnamon. cut in margarine, using fork or pastry blender, until mixture is crumbly.

Can you tell I was really ready to eat it. I forgot to take a picture before cutting a slice.

Chicken with Pepperoni-Marinara Sauce

In keeping up with the get healthy goal for 2012 I was looking for some new recipes to try. Along came the January/February issue of Cooking Light. I haven't finished the issue but when I saw this one Saturday I knew it was going to be my dinner this week.

Chicken with Peperoni-Marinara Sauce

1/2 tsp. minced fresh garlic

16 slices pepperoni, coarsely sliced

1/4 tsp. dried oregano

1 1/2 c. lower sodium marinara sauce

2 tbsp. chopped fresh basil

2 tsp. olive oil

1 1/2 pounds chicken cutlets

1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper

1 c. shredded part skim mozzarella cheese

Makes 4 servings

1. Preheat broiler to high

2. Heat saucepan over medium-high heat. Coat pan with cooking spray. Add garlic and pepperoni; cook 2 minutes or until garlic begins to brown, stirring frequently.

Add oregano; cook 30 seconds. Add marinara sauce; bring to a boil.

Reduce heat, and simmer 5 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in basil.

3. Heat a large ovenproof skillet over medium-high heat. Add oil; swirl to coat. Sprinkle chicken with pepper. Add chicken to skillet; cook 5 minutes or until lightly browned, turning after 3 minutes.

Spoon sauce over chicken;

sprinkle evenly with cheese.

Broil 2 minutes or until cheese melts.

It turned out really awesome. I had to make some garlic bread to go with it. If Kroger had not had it on special this week for $1 I wouldn't have thought about it.

I used the Prego Heart Smart sauce because it was the one with the lowest sodium that Kroger carries in my store. Cooking Light recommends McCutcheon's. I used my cast iron skillet because I couldn't remember if my other skillets could go in the oven, I have had them 10 years and never needed to know that before. Next time I will wait to cut the broiler on until I start the chicken. The cheese got to browned in a minute starting it at the beginning as stated in the directions. This is a quick recipe so you can do it on a work night too. I was talking about it this week at work and a couple people said it would be good over pasta and I am sure it would be but eating it without was very filling too.

Without the garlic bread a serving is

380 calories

14.7 g fat

48.5 g protien

28.7 carbs

533 mg sodium

122 mg cholestrol

Gym Peeves

There are a few things that just drive me crazy about my fellow gym members.

**I realize it is a personable choice if you smoke. I can't stand the smell of it. And if you do the smell gets worse when you start sweating. What is worse us when you can smell the person coming from a few feet away. I won't lie if I can smell the person I won't get on a machine next to me and if it gets to bad I will get off.

**Don't stand there and stare at me because you want my machine. It won't make me finish my workout any faster.

**Is there really a need for the guys lifting weights to yell so loud.

**If I can hear your tunes over mine then I feel sorry for you when you get old as you won't be able to hear.

**I don't need to hear your phone conversations. And while your at it the weight machines are not chairs please go somewhere else to talk on your phone.

Healthy Update

I think 2012 needs to slow down a bit. How have two weeks already passed?
I did well hitting my goals last week. I went another week with no cokes. Yippee!! Now to keep it up. I ended with a migraine on Thursday and had a headache again on Friday. But it is not going to get me down.
I also hit my goal of 3 workouts last week. I also got in an extra one. I did fail on getting in a strength workout. I always have issues getting in the strength I am a cardio queen. I did get in one ab workout. I pulled it off Sparkpeople, it can be found here. My abs were sore for two days after doing it. I am planning on working it in again this week.
This weeks goal is to get in 4 workouts. Two ab workouts and one strength workout. Keep up with the no coke rule. As long as I don't eat out that will help me out. Not to mention save some money.
I weighed yesterday morning. And I am down 1.8 pounds so far this year and 0.75 inches overall. I wish it was more but it is a good start. I will take what I can get at the moment.

Six in a Row

If there was any doubt in your mind who is the best college football conference the last six years should prove it. The SEC conference brought home their sixth title in a row last night. The only bad part about that is it meant that going into bowl season the SEC automatically had a loss on the books.

And yet another reason for people to hate the BCS championship system. This year the #1 and #2 teams were both from the SEC. Last night LSU Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide played for the title. I was torn who to pull for and ended up pulling for both teams throughout the game. In the end people I love were going to be upset.

In the end the crystal football went back to the state of Alabama for the third year.

Get Healthy Resolution

My only resolution this year is to get healthy. Instead of jumping head first all or nothing this year I decided to take it in baby steps. I have fallen off the workout wagon big time since September. I might get in one a week if I was lucky since then and I think it was only one the whole month of December.
My goals for last week were to workout 3 times and cut out cokes in the morning. I archived those goals though there were a couple rough starts to the mornings last week. I also added in some healthier food too.
I didn't hit the gym as I had hoped but I did get in 3 workouts with my Wii. I also started logging my food and workouts on Sparkpeople again. I just need to keep up with that for a couple months to get a handle on my eating habits. I only ate out once last week as a late birthday celebration with a friend and her family. I am hoping that it will be last time I do for the month.
This week my goals are to get in 3 workouts and continue the no cokes rule. Now that my hours have changed at work it will make getting to the gym easier. I will be getting off at 4:30 again so that will mean beating most people to the gym after work and less fighting for a machine. I need to also add in a strength workout.
I picked up some healthy items for my lunch this week at the grocery store.

Rose Parade

It just doesn't seem like a New Year without snuggling down with a cup of hot chocolate to watch the Rose Parade. So it was a little sad to not be able to do that on 1/1 but the Tournament of Roses Association sticks to the old rule created by Valley Hunt Club that of the First falls on a Sunday the parade will be on 1/2. The Valley Hunt Club started the parade in 1890 by decorating their carriages on their way to games. By 1895 the parade had grown to much and the Tournament of Roses association was created to handle it. The parade has come along way from decorating the carriages with fresh flowers to the moving floats covered in plant materials and flowers we see during the parades these days.

I loved the Elizabeth Taylor float this year. It is amazing how they can create a photo with plant materials.

The flying pigs cracked me up.

The Inchworm was cute with the clown face.

The Roy Rogers float made me smile. My great uncle was obsessed with Roy and told my grandparents to name my uncle Roy Rogers but even though they didn't he always called him Roy. Uncle Jack was special and I hate he died before I could remember him.

I loved the hot rod.

Being a former girl scout I loved their 100th Anniversary float. But I couldn't find a picture of the float on Google. And yes there is a photo of Juliette Gordon Low on the back.

White Chocolate Kisses Ice Cream

I know this is not going to help me with the be healthier in 2012 but I had this idea in my head and it wouldn't go away. I had some Hershey Candy Cane Kisses still around and wanted to do something with them.

White Chocolate Kisses Ice Cream

1 c. milk

1/2 c. sugar

8 oz. white chocolate

2 c. heavy cream, well chilled

1 tsp. pure vanilla

20 Hershey's candy cane kisses

Melt the white chocolate, milk and sugar in a saucepan. Take the pan off the stove and let it cool. Once the mixture cools pour in the heavy cream and whisk together. Put in the fridge until it is all cold. Once the mixture is cold add it to the ice cream maker and let it mix by the manufacturer's directions. While the white chocolate mixture is in the ice cream maker chop up 20 kisses and add to the ice cream maker in the last 5 minutes of mixing.

I will admit I was not real sure how it would turn out. But it is good. I will have to remember this at the end of the year when the holiday season rolls around again.

I was at the library later that week and looked to see if it was in. I was very happy to see that it was. It is about a girl in her sophomore year of high school and goes through the age of 26.

The fist in the series starts with Jessica reeling from her best friend moving to Tennessee. Hope's parents decide after her brother Heath's overdose on drugs that little Pineville, NJ is to dangerous. Jessica feels her life is over without Hope as she is the only one who gets her but they have promised to write each month, email and IM. The book is mainly reading Jessica's diary she starts keeping on January 1st when Hope leaves. Jessica is frustrated being left as the only brainy one in the group that she and Hope have nicknamed the remaining members the clueless crew. Not only that but Jessica starts bumping into Heath's stoner friend Marcus and feeling attracted to him.

Through the series Jessica will admit her feelings about Marcus to Hope and is relieved to find out she is not upset or mad at her for it. By the end of Senior year Jessica and Marcus are dating and she is leaving for Columbia and Marcus to school in California. They have an on again off again relationship for years. After turning down his proposal in Fourth Comings you think it is the end but they reunite in Perfect Fifths which involves Jessica also trying to get to Bridget (clueless crew member) and Percy's wedding on St. John.

Megan McCafferty did a wonderful job of bringing out the feelings of a young woman from high school through her mid-twenties. I know I had moments of totally relating to those feelings and moments in life. It is a very cute and quick read series. Perfect for reading during December with the craziness of the holidays.

Leaping into 2012

I don't know about y'all but I am ready to say goodbye to 2011 and leap into 2012. This has been a rough and just crazy year. I have had it with 2011.
I saw a first this year I could have done without. Getting stitches!

I have spent two weeks working on resolutions for next year. The only one I can think of is to start living healthier. I need to get back into my workouts. And eating healthier. I picked up The Carb Lover's Diet from the library last week. I have been reading through it. It would be hard to stick to everything but I will be happy with a couple good recipes. For one it talks about eating a lot of bananas. I can't stand the taste or smell of bananas.

I feel like a loser for not being able to think of more than one thing. It seems like I should have more than one. I have some things I dream of being able to do next year but they don't qualify as resolutions.

Raising a toast to all for 2012 being filled with happiness.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. The day was packed with opening presents. This is the first year that we had Santa wrapped. My parents never wrapped Santa when we were kids so my parents just left it like that when we found out the truth as it was easier. This is a huge treat for me because normally I get to open about three Christmas presents. I got everything on my wish list that I told people about. I can't wait to watch The Help this weekend. And finish up some other books to read Kill Alex Cross.
With my birthday being Christmas Day I am totally against combined gifts. My friends do it rarely. When S found my gift she said she thought about not getting it knowing this but decided it was worth it. She warned me most of the month and kept promising it was worth it. After getting it I totally agree.

It is still in the box until I get a minute to put it somewhere.

Beth sent me two and she really had me curious too as she kept saying something was being personalized.

A beautiful throw with my monogram. I have three things with my full monogram and I am almost positive they all come from Beth

And the biggest surprise of all is I actually got the thing I was dreaming of

This was actually my birthday present.

and with some of the money I got I braved the mall Monday and picked up another one and two old fashioned glasses (I was blinded by the flute that I didn't notice these until the booklet with the flute).

They came in these beautiful boxes that included an ornament holder and charm for a charm bracelet.

I was shocked that Dillard's had them half off with the rest of the Christmas items. But I am thankful they did because it gave me a great start to my Waterford collection.

I also got a couple gift cards to Loft.

Goodie Bags

Last night I put together some goodie bags for my co-workers. This year I only did my team. Which still turned out to be 10 of them. And I didn't realize I needed 10 until last night I thought it was 8 so I have to head to the store on the way into the office. I decided to give a them a coffee mug and hot chocolate. Of course that couldn't be it. I gave it a shot to decorate some big marshmallows too.

I took some crushed soft peppermint candies, red sprinkles, green sprinkles and chopped up peppermint kisses.

I forgot to get a picture. But I melted two cubes of both white chocolate and milk chocolate in my coffee mugs (made the marshmallows easy to dip). Then I dipped the marshmallows in the chocolate and dipped them into the sprinkles or peppermint.

They turned out pretty cute. I started to use a straw but it worked out better to just use my fingers. I put them in the fridge for about 30 minutes to harden the chocolate before putting them in the bags. While they were in the fridge I put together the rest of the bags.

I put a package of hot chocolate, candy cane, and peppermint kisses the mugs. Since we have to use our own cups or mugs at work I decided to go with white ones so the team could use them all year.

I put 3 marshmallows in each bag. I was going to try and put them on a straw but that didn't workout well.

I hope my team likes them. It is always freezing in the office so this can come in handy.

I have been searching for several years for a Nativity Scene and haven't found I like yet alone love. Well besides the Waterford one and let's face it that isn't in my budget. I went out during lunch to finish my Christmas shopping and found one I love. I am going to wait until next year to find the perfect spot for it.

I have to admit being sick has put a damper on the Christmas decorations. I only managed to get my Christmas tree up and the card holder. I feel so sad about not getting my Christmas dishes out more than anything else that didn't get put out.

I never put presents under the tree since i have to either ship them or take them somewhere else.

We all know every year Neiman Marcus puts out their Fantasy Gifts. I am sure I am not the only one who looks at it and wonders who buys these items. In all the years that I have been looking at their fantasy gifts I have not seen one that I would remotely consider buying even if I had the money.

Johnnie Walker Private Scotch Tasting Fantasy Gift.

The gift includes a party for 20 guests to taste the Blue, Black, Gold, Red, and Green labels, a Scottish bagpiper, and a Master of Whiskey to tell the history and what is palatable attributes of each label. The party will be planned by an organizer and each person gets to leave with a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue label. All for the price of $5,000. The site states the price will be tax deductible and go to the Foundation for Aids research.

I will admit I am not a big fan of scotch but this could be a fun evening if I had the money for such an event.

Vacation bummer

My last 4 days of vacation were scheduled for last week. I was excited to be able to finish my Christmas shopping and spend a day in Oxford. Not to mention getting a lot done around the house which included cleaning out closets and donating items. Almost none of that happened. I did get up Tuesday and got Belle to the vet and finished all but two people on my Christmas shopping list. Yeah me on that part. So then I went by the doctor's office. There was such a line that it took 2 hours. I walked out with two prescriptions one of which had to be compounded. Yippee! Oh and one of those included the need for a nasal nebulizer. Oh how fun! I hate things going up my nose. Thankfully thanks to all the meds and sleeping for most of the rest of my vacation I am feeling better.
G got sick last week and I kept him for a couple hours so S & JF didn't have to miss some meetings at work. (which I would have done sick or not since I was off) We cuddled up and watch a movie on the couch. G did decide to get down and play with Belle for a bit too. He was to cute trying to figure out how to put one of Belle's toys on the tree (I have red balls on the tree).
I am glad G & I are both feeling better.

Party Hard

I have been waiting to write about H's third birthday party until his birthday. It was help at one of the bounce places. It was a blast. The place has a boys and a girls room. In the boys room there was one bouncy thing, a slide with Cars them and two with an obstacle course to get to the slides one of which was Superman themed.

Taco French Bread Pizza

I was looking for something quick and easy to make for dinner tonight. I have been sick and didn't have much in the house or want to spend much time in the kitchen. I remembered that I had a loaf of frozen garlic bread in the freezer and adapted an idea I had seen to fit what I did have in the house. The idea was for chicken parm garlic bread pizza.

Taco French Bread Pizza

1 loaf of frozen garlic bread (or fresh)

salsa

ranch dressing

chicken

taco seasoning

shredded cheese

I baked 3 chicken tenders sprinkled with taco seasoning for 25 minutes.

I took the frozen garlic bread out of the freezer after the chicken was done.

After I took the picture I decided to only bake 1 slice and put the second back in the freezer. I baked it for 5 minutes without the toppings (mine says for 8-9 minutes)

While the garlic bread was baking I shopped up the chicken

and

mixed up the salsa and ranch dressing.

I spread the salsa & ranch dressing mixture on the garlic bread.

Sprinkled the chicken on top of the salsa mixture

Sprinkled it then with the shredded cheese.

I baked it for the final 4 minutes.

It turned out wonderful. I was a little worried about the salsa & garlic combination.

I used 3 cheese ranch dressing and a combination of the nacho taco cheese and authentic Hispanic cheese. I am looking forward to seeing how it will be warmed up tomorrow.

I went yesterday to finish my Christmas shopping, which so didn't happen. But I went to Dillard's to look for a few things, no they were not for anyone who reads this blog (sorry Beth & S). While wandering around the home department I saw a display of these

Aren't they gorgeous? They are a new serious of of Waterford flutes that start this year and end in 2020. This one is the Snowflake Wishes 2011 Wishes for Joy.

I am not going to lie I was so tempted to give in and buy myself one. I would love to have this set of beautiful flutes. The display in Dillard's also had the pictures and names of each one in the series. I really wanted and still do the 12 Days of Christmas series but couldn't bring myself to drop the cash for them or put them on my wish lists. In all honesty I when that series started I was still in college and couldn't afford it or really thought of such things. My concerns were to have the basic cooking utensils and bar ware. I will do my usual thinking through everything before I decide what to do. I did drop over $100 on medicine today that I so hope helps me feel better soon.

Cold November Snow

I am still in a bit of shock but the Memphis area got snow last night. I think we got a little more than an inch, I haven't heard the news mention how much. Right now we are still getting a bit of a mix. Thankfully it isn't causing any issues with the roadways. I can handle snow like this. It is beautiful to watch fall and stick to the lawn and trees but not messing up my life by causing driving issues.

It is already beginning to melt a bit.

Sausage Cream Cheese Horns

I couldn't come up with a better name for the recipe. And there is one out there somewhere like this. At G's party last week JF put me to task to make something that contained sausage, cream cheese and crescent rolls as one of his co-workers had made them and they were wonderful. Yes that is all I had to go with and I was to bring them to Thanksgiving. I looked on the Pillsbury site for something but I didn't see anything.

Sausage Cream Cheese Horns

1 lb sausage

1 (8 oz) pkg. cream cheese

2 cans crescent rolls

Brown the sausage and then drain. Put the sausage back in the pan and add the cream cheese cut into cubes.

Unroll the crescent rolls.

Add a tablespoon to the wide end of the triangle.

Roll up.

Bake according to the crescent roll directions.

They turned out wonderful. They got JF's seal of approval.

The Golden Egg

Today the Ole Miss Rebels play Mississippi State Bulldogs for the Golden Egg.

The first game was played in 1901 and is the 10th longest uninterrupted rivalry game in the nation. It wasn't until 1927 the trophy was first awarded.

The Golden Egg has been in Starkville for the last two years. I would love to see it come home to Oxford this year but doubt that will happen. State has not won more than two in a row since 1942.

The Rebels lead the series 60-41-6. Leading the series will have to make us feel better for another year.

Ole Miss/LSU Weekend

I always love when it rolls around to LSU coming to Oxford for the Magnolia Bowl. Yes this year we knew what the outcome would be. I didn't end up with but one picture of me from the weekend and it is not a good one but I am glad our heads were not cut off because the person behind the camera was a tad drunk.

The sign at the Delta Gamma house said it all. Sorry it is small it is from my phone.

I saw the Colonel Reb blow up on the way back from the stadium and insisted X and I get a picture with it. He willingly gave in to the idea. Oh and yes we did only stay for the first half and headed back to the tent in the grove.

Monday Smiles

S and JF's Belgian Malinois Daisy had puppies last week. The total in the litter is 9, six boys and 3 girls. They are so tiny and cute. And no one will not be going the GRITS household. Belle couldn't handle it and neither could I. One pup at a time until there is more than one person living in this house.
I went to their house yesterday for G's first birthday and after H was told that no the balloons were not for him the first priority was to show me the babies.

Magnolia Bowl

Today is the Magnolia Bowl.

In other words it is the Ole Miss vs. LSU game.

This is from the first Magnolia Bowl played in 2008. The game was given the name Magnolia Bowl because the state flower for both states is the Magnolia. Both student bodies at the time elected to give the game a title.

This year the only bowl games the Rebels will go to is the Magnolia and Egg bowls.

The trophy that is played for each year. And unless a miracle happens will be returning to Baton Rouge.

The game is always a blast. As X comes from a family full of LSU fans and there are always a group headed up from New Orleans. We so need to start going down to Baton Rouge too.

**Mother nature is screwing with my outfit plans for Saturday. It is supposed to be freezing LSU weekend. This year the temps are predicted in the 70s and lows in 50s.

Pimento Cheese Soup

I picked up an issue of Delta magazine recently. They are coming out with a new cookbook and added a few recipes in the September/October issue. Two recipes really stuck out to me. I had a hard time deciding which to make first. So I flipped a coin and Pimento Cheese Soup won the toss.

Pimento Cheese Soup

6 tbsp. butter

1 medium onions, chopped

1 celery stalks, diced

2 garlic cloves, minced

6 tbsp. flour

3 c. chicken broth

1 1/2 c. milk

1 1/2 c. heavy cream

1/2 tsp. dry mustard

1 (15 oz) can white beans, drained and rinsed

2 c. grated extra sharp cheddar cheese

1 (7 oz) jar diced pimentos, drained

1 tsp. Tabasco

1/4 tsp. garlic powder

1/2 tsp. salt

1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper

In a dutch oven, heat butter over medium heat and saute onions and celery until tender.

Add garlic and cook for 1 minute, stirring. Blend in the flour, then gradually add the chicken broth, 1 cup at a time. Gradually add the milk and cream and dry mustard. Cook for several minutes, stirring until thickened.

Remove from heat and add white beans. Puree soup mixture with a hand blender until smooth.

Return pot to medium low heat. Slowly add grated cheese and diced pimentos and stir gently until cheese is completely melted.

Season with Tabasco, garlic powder, salt and pepper.

The soup turned out great. I think it would be great by adding diced potatoes for a loaded potato soup. I need to go get some more freezer bags so I can freeze some of the soup for later. Still trying to figure out what could go with it other than a salad. Tomorrow night I am going to cook some chicken to through in it.

Alma Mater

There were rumors flying since Friday night that Coach Houston Nutt was to be fired. Some said that it was immediate and others said he would be finishing the season out. I was going for finishing out the season as I don't think it is fair to the players or coaches this close to the end of the season. And then the rumors started this morning that Pete Boone would be retiring. My first thoughts were could this really be happening we are through with Boone. And of course the added rumors were that Archie Manning would be heading up the committee to hire a new coach and athletic director. I am not going to lie I wasn't getting my hopes to up until the 2:00 press conference happened.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Over a month early to me because the rumors were true or at least partially true.

** Coach Houston Nutt is fired after the Egg Bowl.
** Pete Boone will be retiring once his replacement is found.
** Archie Manning is co-chairing the search committee. His co-chair is a FedEx VP Mike Glenn.

I hope we find a new AD as fast if not faster than a new coach. I don't want Pete to be able to destroy any more of our traditions. Now can we get Chancellor Dan Jones gone. And most important now is that Colonel Reb is restored to his rightful place as the Ole Miss mascot.

I was more than willing to allow Coach Nutt to stick around for another year and have Pete Boone go first. I wish Coach Nutt and the rest of the coaches the best of luck in the future. Pete just go away.

A big thank you goes out to the Forward Rebels group for keeping this front and center to the news and the administration.

Today the Rebels are playing the Kentucky Wildcats.

Neither team has an SEC win. I am hoping we bring one home as it is our last chance this season for one of those. The Rebels are in sad shape when the Wildcats have more wins than we do in a football season.

Random Thoughts

** Since when is it okay to go trick or treating without a costume? I think this is going to be my last year to deal with trick or treaters. I had very few and the majority were teens being driven around and stopping where a porch light is on without costumes. I was taught that you had to wear a costume and after 6th grade were to old for it.

** I had fun spending all the rebate money on myself. Still regretting I couldn't make a decision on something for the house.

** I really have been wondering what it is like not to spend a birthday with family. With when mine is (12/25) I have never done that. And I am beginning to wonder more what that is like and thinking of doing it.

** I love that there are two Stephanie Plum novels coming out this year. I can't wait for it to arrive at the end of the month.

** I really wish Pinterest had an already pinned notice. I found one outfit pinned on my style board 4 times. I am thinking I really like that outfit. Not to mention quotes pinned several times. And I think I need more boards to separate all the rooms and food types.

** I lost an inch off my waist in October. Not sure how I did it as I was not consist with working out. Now let's see what can happen if I jump back on the workout bandwagon.

** Has anyone else thought that Twitter names are like CB handles? No I don't know where that thought came from. I had one as a kid but don't remember it now, what the grandfathers owned a construction and logging business.

Build a Six Pack

Yeah it isn't the one with abs. But if I ever do figure that one out I will let you in on it I promise.

This is the six pack I am talking about.

I have been wanting some beer to go with my chili since Sunday when I made it. I finally stopped by Kroger on my way home from running errands today. And Kroger had a build you own six pack option. I have been wanting to try a few but didn't want to get a six pack and not like it. Not to mention I usually go out to eat for lunch so beer is not an option.

Landshark Lager

The Ole Miss defense referred to themselves as landsharks a couple years ago and this got really poplar around here. Oh to have that group of guys back on the field for us.

Abita Purple Haze

I haven't had any in a long time. Yep I spent a whole weekend in New Orleans and didn't have any Abita beer. Terrible I know.

Lazy Magnolia Reb Ale

If this turns out as good as another of theirs I might have to drink a few of these on Saturday in hopes it will help us beat Kentucky.

I tried this for the first time last year on the girls weekend in Natchez. I pick up a six pack every blue moon and it makes me think of the wonderful weekend with my girls.

Samuel Adams Octoberfest

Yes I know October is over but I have never tried it and grabbed one before they are gone for the year.

Diamond Bear Southern Blonde

It is made in Little Rock by a brand I have never heard of. But I am giving it a try since it is a beer made here in the south.

Yes, I got two I have had before but at least I know I will enjoy two of these. There were many others I want to try. And it will be nice to mix up the ones I already know are good on occasion too. I don't always want a full six pack of just one brand of beer.

HAPPY BLOGAVERSARY!!!

Today is my second blogaversary. I can't believe how fast time has gone by.

When I started this blog I really wasn't sure I would stick with it. I am very glad I did because I have met some wonderful ladies. I have found some wonderful recipes and ideas, most of which I have yet to try but one day I will. I have won a couple awards and that still amazes me, thanks to the ladies who gave them to me.

Trunk or Treat

Trunk or treats are becoming very poplar in the Memphis area. A lot of churches have them. This year the city of Hernando had their first one. After it was over they showed Monsters, Inc on the courthouse square. S asked me to come down about hour early since she and JF had to help set up to be the baby wrangler.

G was having so much fun playing with the empty pumpkin. Yep he belongs in this family they all love Halloween.

Mr. M and Mrs. P showed up and just happened to have the bike in their vehicle. H is so in love with his Cars bike.

Mrs. P decorated her Yukon or Tahoe (can't remember who has which one). Several kiddos were scared of the decorations. And yep she won the decorating contest.

Don't know what was up with my flash. Mrs. P in costume.

Kids everywhere. There were two little kiddos as Yoda and Chewy. I wasn't able to get a picture of them.

H was Thomas the train for about a minute and then he didn't want the costume anymore. G is a pumpkin.

Watching a movie on the square is always fun. One day I will stay long enough to watch a full movie. But I am sure it will be several years before the boys are old enough for that to happen.
