July Recap

How are we already down seven months of 2012? I totally blew the goal of doing Jillian's kettle bell DVD twice a week. It never came out of the case. I really need to get it together for August.
But I did hit my goal of three 30 minute cardio workouts each week. I actually logged 508 minutes on Sparkpeople for the month. Way to go me!!
I also hit my goal of drinking eight glasses of water a day. And most days I managed to exceed it. Not so great with logging my food each day but did so okay with eating better.
Every little bit will count in the end. I don't see a whole lot of changes at this point. But I know I have taken a big step back on the road to being healthier and getting my weight back down.
Did y'all hit any goals that were set for July?

Birthday Celebrations

I have been terrible and not written about a birthday party I went to last month.  A friend of mine was celebrating her 40th birthday a little early.  And several other friends came in from out of town for the party.

Kellie is not only a friend but she was also my ZTA advisor back in the day.

Isn't that the cutest cake?

Sorry for the darkness of the picture.  The group of ZTAs celebrating.

Texie & the birthday girl.

W and her new fiance P.

And the award for the best looking ZTA family goes to us.
W my big sis, Texie the aunt, N the grand big, and me.

It was a great night to spend with friends and to celebrate a special time with our friend.

Pinterest Wednesday

I am linking up with Michelle at The Vintage Apple for Pinterest Wednesday.  Today instead of pins I dream of I decided to put up some I have tried.

I pulled this out of Fitness magazine in May 2010.  I pull it out a couple times a month to do while watching TV.  I don't know how well you will look if you do it on a more regular basis but I feel it after each time I do the workout.

I tried this tip when I painted my hall bath a couple months ago and it worked.

I made these White Chocolate Raspberry muffins and took them to the office.  We all decided that the sugar on top made them a little to sweet but they were still yummy.

White Strawberry Sangria  enough said!  I have also used peach schnapps instead of the strawberry and it is just as delicious.

When I first saw this Chicken with Pepperoni Marinara Sauce recipe in an issue of Cooking Light I knew I had to try it.  It was wonderful I will be making this quite often in the fall and winter.

These Caribbean Chicken Kabobs are my favorite dish to throw on the grill during the summer.  Seriously I have already made them 3 times since the end of May.

Who doesn't love a wonderful frozen treat in the summer.  And this Blackberry Wine Sorbet really hits the spot.

This Easy Skillet Pimento Mac n' Cheese is my favorite side dish to make.

I have used this tip for cleaning the dishwasher with vinegar and baking soda several times and it works wonderfully.

What pins you have y'all tried?

Magazines - BHG

I don't think it is any secret I love magazines.  Something about those shiny pages with great ideas.  My grandmothers and mother always had them around the house and yes pretty much the same subscriptions.  And now I get most of those too.

One that I always remember seeing around was Better Homes and Garden or BHG.   Granted there are a lot of the gardening articles that I skip.  Let's face it I don't have much skills there and I am scared of disappointment to even try some of those ideas.
What I do love is the decorating ideas.  And one of my favorite pieces in the magazine is the color tips.  Every month they highlight different colors or color combinations and how to use them when decorating.  I have no clue how to pull rooms together so they don't look horrible so I have kept everyone of them.  I love that they show you which colors are best for the whole wall or small accents.  You don't have to use these just for paint but how to pull a room together, at least in my humble opinion.

When I saw this one my first thought was the 1970s are back.

My favorites involve the blues.

I love when they do the colors around a theme.

See I do keep them all.  I am not a fan of the color yellow. But even these have me thinking they wouldn't be a bad idea.

As much as I love the ones involving one color when they show multiple ones and how they pull together in a room.

White Cheddar Chicken Quesadilla

I was scrounging through the fridge for something to eat last night.  I found a couple items to throw together a quesadilla.

White Cheddar Chicken Quesadilla

1 Babybel white cheddar wheel
pre-cooked chicken strips
Naturally Fresh Jalapeno Ranch Dressing
tortilla shells

Chop up the Babybel.

Pour in a couple tablespoons of the ranch dressing.

Chop up the chicken strips and toss with the cheese & dressing mix.
Spread the mixture on one tortilla.

Cover with the second tortilla and put in the oven at 350° for 10 minutes flipping halfway through.

It hit the spot last night.

Random Thoughts

** I tried the Garnier BB Creme. I am not impressed. I bought the light/medium and it is to dark for my pale skin.

** Talbot's is having an awesome sale right now. I picked up a $150 dress for $40 over the weekend.

** I went to a step class last night. I didn't last but half the class before my knees were killing me. That gave motivation to kick up my workouts and eating healthy to get off the extra pounds. And I am walking like an old person today because they still hurting this morning.

** My parents are coming to visit next week and I have no clue what I am going to do with them. Other go to the place Daddy has picked to eat off the list he has created from watching Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.

** we are halfway through July and I have yet to do a single one of the Jillian workouts I had planned on. But I have kept the rest of my goals this month.

Olympic Mania

Source: google.com via Ruth on Pinterest

I am so excited that the Olympics start next week.  I am excited to see how many medals the USA  can bring home this time.  And I am also really looking forward to see how London handles the opening ceremonies.  Though I am not sure that the ceremony from the Beijing games will ever be topped.

My favorite events to watch are the gymnastics competitions.  I am in awe of both the men and women and their performances.   When I was a kid and taking gymnastics I dreamed of competing.

So it shouldn't be any surprise that Mary Lou Retton was my hero.
There was only one event that scared me.  And I am still not sure why the uneven bars scared me.

The amount of strength it takes to perform on the rings puts me in awe each time I watch them.  And yes it takes some strength.  I remember getting a chance to try them out when I took classes.  I think I lasted 2 seconds.

Diving always amazes me.  I know no matter the height of the board I couldn't get in all those flips in before hitting the water.

And who doesn't love watching this guy swim.

The teamwork these two ladies have is amazing.  Not to mention their abs after having kids.

There is one thing that could make men's beach volleyball better.  The guys play shirtless.

What events are you most looking forward to watching from London?

Loving It

I have been reading several reviews for the Clarisonic Mia.  I wasn't sure it was something I really needed or would bother to spend money on.  Well I caved in and bought one two weeks ago.

Source: clarisonic.com via Ruth on Pinterest

I won't lie I left it in the bag for almost two days before deciding it wasn't so crazy to have purchased it and charged up the Mia.  And yes when the Jeep broke down I almost returned it.  I am glad that I didn't return it.  My face is looking clearer and sure feels softer.  I will admit that when I use it on my nose it is a weird feeling but not enough to stop.
My face had been breaking out again thankfully not as bad as when I was a teenager but it still sucked. So to use with my Mia I picked up a bottle of Neutrogena Anti Blemish Anti-Wrinkle face wash to use at night with the Mia.  It has really cleared up my face.  Since my skin is sensitive I am only using the Mia once a day and still using the Oil of Olay Regenerist scrub in the  morning.
I am really glad I decided to purchase the Mia.  Even if I still think I am a little crazy for spending so much money on something to wash my face.  And yes the last time I felt like I spent money frivolously I was really happy to have the IPhone.

I am not being paid to endorse any of these product.

Monday, Monday

I hate that the weekend is already over and it is back to the real world.  But at least this week we only  have one Monday.
