Outta Here 2012

I am glad to see the end of 2012 even if it means the last couple days are spent at home sick. I am ready to see what 2013 will bring because it couldn't be as bad as the majority of 2012.

The best parts of 2012

  • Attending my first Mardi Gras.
  • Visiting LA for the first time.
  • Learning a new system at work.
  • Starting back to school for a second degree.

I put in work towards the one goal I made for myself.  But will admit this fall a lot of it started to fall apart.  I might not have been eating as well as I did most of the year but I started enjoying working out again.  Just need to get the two combined and I know it will make me feel much better.

How did everyone else do with achieving their goals for 2012?

Recapping Christmas & Birthday

Santa was good to me this year.  I got almost all of my wish list.  Granted I asked for two things from my family.

I got several new pieces of my Christmas dishes.  Granted I am not sure when I would use the gravy boat.

These I will use as the bowls that come with the place setting are pretty small.

These may or may not be used as I don't use my pasta bowls very often.

Now I won't have to worry about missing any of the Charlie Brown holiday specials.
I also got money and gift cards to Loft.

And for my birthday

It wasn't much of a surprise as my mother told me weeks ago I was getting another stem. I used some birthday money to buy a second one but I couldn't find any of the old fashioned glasses this year.

I got a few new baubles from Beth for Christmas and my birthday.

The one gift I will cherish I forgot to take a picture of before putting it up.  I got an ornament with H & G's thumbprints turned into reindeer's.

Feeling a lot like Christmas

Last weekend was the lighting of the Christmas tree on the county courthouse square.

Aren't these fellas cute. I even got G to share is M&Ms.

Isn't the tree beautiful!

Santa even stopped by

I got a few shots from the parade. P & I were the Grinches who stole the parade. We went around telling people to stay out of the streets on the parade route.

Wish List

Everyone is bugging me for a wish list.  This has been really hard this year.  One thing for me is I can make a really long list each year and not feel any guilt at all.  After all everyone has two events to buy presents for.  I already know because mother totally slipped up and it was the only thing I told them but I am getting it.

I would love tickets to my first Ole Miss bowl game.

It is going to be his last tour and I hope I don't have to miss it. Who wants to go?

Bowling

I am still in a bit of shock that after the last two rough seasons the Rebels are going bowling this year.  The rumors floating around all week as possibilities were Liberty Bowl, Music City Bowl, and BBVA Compass Bowl.  All in great southern cities and in driving distance.  I was getting excited looking at the dates of all three that maybe it would finally work out that I could go to a bowl game.  Especially with having New Year's Eve off work and one being on a Saturday.  I was so hoping for the Liberty Bowl because I could stay at home in my own bed and save a lot of money.  And would be easier to afford it and others to go with me.  But it was announced today that we got the

A little fun

Since my family is coming to my house for Christmas there are quite a few calls going back and forth for about gifts. As in what I need you to go buy so we don't have to bring it with us. They seem to forget I have a job and some days call at least three times while I am at work. So I decided to have a little fun with my mother's from daddy. She is already stressing me about how much he spent. I told her from $160 to $500. I let daddy in on it so he wrote $4,000 in the checkbook for the amount of the check he sent me. She is more nosy about gifts than my brother or I ever thought to be. So yes being the smarta**es we are we are having fun. So I added to it when I wrapping tonight.

I wrapped the gift and noticed there was a box it fits in.

And a second one.

Well I had nothing else to put in this one really big box

Christmas morning will be fun.  She is either going to be totally irritated by this or thinking she is getting jewelry by the last box.

Stockings

I picked up some new stockings over the weekend that I saw at Lowe's.  I don't know now what my goal was in going to Lowe's but I walked out with stockings.  But now that I have pulled out the ones I have had for years I am not sure which ones I like better.

These are my old ones.

Or

The New ones

Football Weekend

I can't believe it is the last full week of college football.  Where has the year gone?  This is the best week of the year though Rivalry week.  I am hopeful that the Golden Egg will stay in Oxford Saturday.

Stromboli Wraps

I was looking for a good thing to pull out for football.  I pulled out an old one that I have not had in a long time.

Stromboli Wraps

4 mission zesty garlic herb wraps
1/3 c. butter or margarine, softened
6 tbsp. shredded Parmesan cheese
4 oz provolone cheese, thinly sliced
4 oz salami, thinly sliced
4 oz ham, thinly sliced
1/2 c. (4 oz) jar roasted bell peppers, rinsed & cut into strips
4 oz mozzarella cheese, shredded
Mariana or pizza sauce, heated

Heat oven to 400°
Lightly spread one side of each wrap with softened butter; sprinkle with 1 tbsp. Parmesan.  Arrange one fourth each of provolone, salami, ham and roasted peppers over center of wraps, leaving border around edges.  Sprinkle each wrap with one fourth of mozzarella.
Fold up "wrap fashion" Place seam side down on non-stick baking sheet.  Brush with remaining butter:  sprinkle with remaining Parmesan.  Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until golden brown.  Slice each Stromboli on the diagonal.  Serve with marinara or pizza sauce, if desired.

I have not been able to find the zesty garlic wraps in a long time.  I have used the jalapeno cheddar wraps and it turns out great.  But last night I couldn't find either so I just used the wheat ones I had at home.

Musings

** I am trying to decide if I want to go darker with my highlights when I get them done Saturday.

** I am loving my new IPhone. Now to get used to typing around the Otterbox.

** It drives me crazy to see 'Merica on stuff. It is America or USA

** I am jealous of people who got I voted stickers. We don't get them in Mississippi.

**  I am already over the cold temps.  Can we just stay in the 60s until June?

**  I am excited that this weekend will be the last time I have to mow the yard this year.

** I am glad to have almost half my Christmas shopping done.

**  I may have my shopping done but I still don't know what I want for either Christmas or my Birthday.

**  I love that Nordstrom is waiting until after Thanksgiving to decorate for Christmas.  I would love it if more store would follow their lead.

Cajun Chex Party Mix

I found this recipe in an ad for chex when I was in college.  It has been a while since I made it and this weekend I couldn't get it out of my head so I picked up the couple things I needed.  This was pretty much all I ate after breakfast Saturday.  Though I still wonder how you call it a party mix when the actual recipe only calls for three types of chex.

Cajun Chex Party Mix

1/2 c. butter
1 tsp. celery salt
1 tbsp. parsley flakes
1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper
4-8 drops of hot pepper sauce
1 tsp. garlic powder
2 2/3 c.(each) wheat, corn, rice chex cereal

In a 3 1/2 quart microwave bowl melt butter on high one minute.  Stir in parsley, celery salt, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, and pepper sauce; mix well.  Gradually add cereal, stirring until all pieces are evenly coated. Cook on high 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 minutes, stirring every 1 1/2 minutes.  Cook an additional 1 1/2 minutes.  Spread an absorbent paper towel to cool.  Store in an air tight container.

My favorite way to have chex mix is with Cheerios, pretzels and peanuts.  I also add a whole teaspoon of cayenne pepper and at least twice as much Tabasco than is called for.  While the recipe is good I like mine spicy so I add the extra kick.

Trunk or Treat

I am a bit behind on blogging.  Last Saturday was Trunk or Treat on the Square.  It was a really chilly evening so the movie planned for afterwards was nixed.

S and H trying to stay warm.  And this was before the treating started.

Mrs. P didn't get into decorating this year.  But we still had fun handing out candy.  And keeping kids from taking off with the spiders and skulls from the wheelbarrow.

The best shot I could get of G.  He was a Teenage Ninja Turtle minus the shell as he hated having it on.

Water Tower Festival

I spent last weekend hanging out at the Water Tower Festival.  Okay I was actually volunteering with it.  My friend M who stayed Friday night and I were dealing with beer and ice sales.  I came home both nights smelling full of BBQ smoke as we spent most of our time back in the area where the teams were located.

Friday night there were three local music acts along with the first rounds of the BBQ competition.

We used one of the law offices on the square as an office over the weekend.  I thought this sign was to funny.

Saturday afternoon there was an arts & crafts show, car show and a kids area.

I thought this was pretty cute setting the dolls up.  A female one was sitting in the passenger seat.

I didn't get a great shot of this yard sign but it says the official bear hunter.

S had two little helpers driving her around for a bit.

BBQ teams lining up to find out the winners.

I only had my IPhone so I couldn't get a good picture of Craig Morgan Saturday night.

Pumpkin Art

I got a few moments to sit down and work the crafting goal I gave myself for the month.  I picked up a few small pumpkins on a grocery store run and decided to paint them.  It took a couple days to get them finished.

It took two coats of  paint to get them covered as much as I wanted.

I had to do one for Breast Cancer awareness month.

And since founder's day is in October I did a ZTA one.

For my Rebels!!

They look pretty cute on my table.  And I haven't had time to figure out where to put them outside.
