Christmas Blog Swap

I participated in my first blog swap.  It was hosted by Daphne over at Flip Flops and Pearls.  Honestly I wasn't sure what to expect but it just sounded to fun not to be part of.  Daphne paired me up with Katie at The Perks.  If you haven't checked out their blogs pop in you will be glad you did.
Katie went way over the call of duty.  I got a box full of fabulous goodies.  And I totally forgot to take a picture of the box before I started taking every thing out.

A Vera Bradley memory board, jar of caramel apple jam, bath scrub, bath oil, Ole Miss magnets, and a Santa spreader.

Hot buttered rum coffee, cookie cutters, cupcake wrappers, bath fizzy, seasoning, gift tags, cute candy bucket, and nail buffer.

pretty ornaments for the tree.

I could hardly wait to open the jar of caramel apple jam.  It is very yummy.  I even warmed up a bit and put on ice cream one night.

I felt so bad when I learned her gift didn't make it in one piece.  Even with the fragile stamps all over it.

Weekend Update

Last week was a bust on the workouts.  I can't wait to get back to the gym this week.  I have spent way to much time on the couch asleep this week.  But one good thing happened last week.  Baby G arrived on Monday night.  I didn't get to go see him until lunch Tuesday.  It was worth the wait.

Isn't he precious?

I picked up something on vacation to take to him at the hospital.  It got an eye roll from his father.

Of course Aunt Ruthie couldn't not get something for big brother H.

He loves it and we played with it Thanksgiving day.

Friday night and Saturday I worked on the tree.  I am finished except for the topper which I am not tall enough to put on.

I didn't get out and brave the crowds this weekend.  But I will have to get out this week and hopefully finish up my Christmas shopping and for H's birthday.

Have a great week everyone.  And I hope everyone had a fabulous Thanksgiving.

Egg Bowl

The 107th Egg Bowl will be played tonight at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

This is our annual rivalry game against Mississippi State and the winner takes home this guy.

I am praying my Rebs pull it out and the golden egg stays in Oxford this year.  And this is the picture we see at the end of the night.

Oh and it would be great if these players were there to do it.  But alas they have moved on and one is a starter for the Ravens these days.

My fear with the way the Rebs have played this year is that what we will see is this.

Maybe Colonel Reb will lift the curse he has put on us this year and allow us the joy and bragging rights of winning the Egg Bowl tonight.

HOTTY TODDY!!!  Go Rebs!!!!!

Go to HELL state!!!

Sorry I have been MIA all week.  I woke up Monday morning with a migraine from hell.  But being the good employee and knowing how many people were off, including one under me, I went to work.  I did that Tuesday too.  When I woke up Wednesday morning and it still wasn't gone I went to the doctor and got a shot.  Thankfully I was already off.   I will have to wait a couple weeks to get around to painting now.  The most productive thing I have done all week is clean the living room, rearrange the living room and started decorating the Christmas tree last night.  I said I was going to hit Wal-Mart at midnight yesterday to buy my present to myself but fell asleep on the couch.  I woke up at 1 and decided it was to rainy and cold to leave the house.  Oh well they will be back in stock eventually.  I am planning on spending the rest of the weekend cleaning the house and getting the Christmas decorations up.
Have a great weekend everyone!

Christmas Wish List

I have seen a lot of people putting their Christmas Wish Lists out on their blogs so I spent some time yesterday thinking about what I would want.   Just a few things I would like to see Santa bring me or find under the tree.  Mine is kind of long but I do have to gift giving events that day.   Not in any order either.

I love the Alex Cross series.

I loved this series and was sad to see it end.

A cross-stitch scroll frame.

For this man to be fired as Ole Miss AD.

I hear this is good.  It would have to be with Keith.

I put this on my list even though it is what I am buying myself.

What would the Wii be without this.

This gent on the football field.

A few more of these cute ornaments.

Because it is so cute.  And I already have the martini & pilsner.

A sapphire ring (not necessarily this one).

I have been wanting one for a while.  I am really excited that they are one of the Black Friday deals at Wal-Mart.

Random Wednesday

This marks post #200.  Totally shocked to see the number tonight and realize that.

I was so excited to get my package from Katie over at The Perks.  We were paired up for the Preppy Christmas Swap.  I will post about all my goodies once Katie has her package as I didn't make it to the post office until today.  Hello caramel apple jam!.

I am trying to figure out my Thanksgiving menu.  I opted to stick here instead of going to my parents for the holiday.  S has invited me to join them since I will be in town but as I don't eat any of the traditional foods I am going to stick at the house and cook something I enjoy.  Now to figure out what that will be.

I decided to buy a Wii for my Christmas/Birthday gift to myself this year.  I have been checking out the deals and so far what Wal-Mart has going right now is looking better than any of the Black Friday deals.  Though I am excited to see the Wii fit on at Target.

While I am here during Thanksgiving I am hoping to work on painting my bedroom if I can borrow a ladder from someone.  And I am going to paint an accent wall in the blue and thinking I am going to go against the norm and not make it the wall my bed is on.

I went to a new furniture store by the office Friday and wondered during lunch.  It is a store that sells items from market displays.  I fell in love with a bed but they only have it in a King and that is to big for me.  I am hoping to find it in a queen at another store in town.  We shall see if it will fit into my budget though.

The one on display was in black but this is beautiful too!!! They also had a storage ottoman that was to cute and would have been perfect for H & G to keep toys in at my house.  But they only had one and it would look better with two due to the size.

Workout update

I must confess I only managed to get in the kettlebell workout once last week.  And boy did it leave me sore for a couple days.  I did get in 3 days of cardio workouts at the gym.  So I don't feel like a complete failure.  I did intend to do the dvd when I got home Friday night from work but after spending two hours moving boxes around and getting them ready to ship I was exhausted.
Yesterday I spent another 6 hours or close to it moving boxes around.  I was so sore by the end of the day but I still went and met Mary at the gym.  If we hadn't already agreed I might have bailed on it.  So last night I spent 25 minutes on the treadmill.  Tonight I hit the gym for 20 minutes on the treadmill and then came home to do the kettlebell workout again.  I am determined to get in at least two this week.  I shouldn't be moving any more boxes until Thursday thankfully.  And I am off on Friday.  Yippee!
Wish me luck ladies!!!

Southwestern Soup

I decided to try another soup this week.  I was planning out my menu yesterday and after being out in the cold and rain I wanted something warm.  Thankfully it was sunny today.

Southwestern Soup

1 lb. ground beef
1 c. coarsely chopped onions
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 (16 oz) cans light red kidney beans, rinsed and drained
1 (15 oz) can black beans, rinsed and drained
1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes and jalapenos, undrained
1 (14.5 oz) can Rotel
1 (14 oz) can beef broth
2 c. frozen yellow & white whole kernel corn
1 (1 oz) envelope taco seasoning mix
1/4 tsp. salt
 1/4 tsp. pepper

Brown ground beef, onion, and garlic in a large dutch oven over medium-high heat, stirring often, 10 to 12 minutes or until meat crumbles and is no longer pink and onion is softened; drain.

Stir in kidney beans, next 8 ingredients, and 4 c. water.  Bring to boil over medium-high heat.

Cover, reduce heat to eat, and simmer 30 minutes or until thoroughly heated.  Stir in cilantro just before serving.

Serve with desired toppings.

Okay I just realized while typing this that halfway through the simmer I forgot to add the corn.  No worries I hopped up and ran into the kitchen and threw those in the pot.  I also realized i am not good at reading directions lately.  I didn't drain the beans and only got one can of the red beans.  I am not upset about missing a can of beans as I don't like a whole lot of them.   I did measure out the amount of taco seasoning in the packet to know in the future.  after making the taco pizzas I so love that taco seasoning that I made for that and will use that next time.

The soup still turned out great.  And already have a container packed for lunch tomorrow.  I made some cheddar chile cornbread muffins to go with it too.

Show us your LIfe -Bathrooms

This week over at Kelly's Korner for Show Us your Life edition is bathrooms.

I have a two bathrooms.  The guest bath is my martini themed bathroom.

A view from the hallway.

My martini glass shower hooks.  I had the Swell shower curtain with the lady taking a bubble bath with a martini but my brother managed to ruin it while he lived with me.

These are across from the toilet.  Though I think when paint in there I am going to move them to above the toilet and but a towel bar on this wall.

A shot of the vanity and mirror.  I was doing my best to make sure I wasn't in the photos.

This is what it looks like on a normal basis.  I only have a laundry closet so the best spot to set up the drying rack is the guest bathroom.

A shot of the master bath from my bedroom.

I didn't want to leave this set in a box and the window seal in my bath was the only place I could find to display them.

The builder didn't put in any towel racks.  I got tired of the over the door one I had since college.  So I bought some command hooks to try out different spots before putting a bunch of holes in the walls.

My vanity area.  I have a double sink and the space in the middle for a stool.  As it is Sunday and I hadn't gotten around to doing my post I didn't clean the counter.  Let's face it the only time it is empty is when it is being cleaned.

Happy Veteran's Day

A big thanks to all the veteran's who have served our great country.

The only photo I have her of my father in uniform is really old.  I am so proud he served for 21 1/2 years in the Air Force.

I wasn't kidding when I said old.  This is in the house when we lived in Birmingham.  He got lucky and we didn't have to move very often.  But he did a lot of assignments overseas before the parents married.

This is what 5 years of retirement will do for you.  This was taken my senior year of high school in the kitchen of their house.

I can't find a good picture of my uncle who is also retired Air Force.

And next year my youngest uncle will be a veteran.  He retires in January.  In this picture he is napping with my youngest cousin (his kiddo).  And this is in the living room at my parents.

I am going to toast my two favorite vets their favorite drink. Jack Daniels.

I totally admit that I wasn't able to stick with the Fitness workout I chose for even a week.  I was so unmotivated.  I am bad about sticking with a strength workout routine.  But this one didn't help as I have had Jillian Michaels Kettlebell workout dvd that came out in September on my mind.  So today I went and bought it.

I debated all last week going ahead and buying it or making myself do at least 2 weeks of her 30 day Shred dvd so I can remember how killer her workouts are before I do it.  Screw it I am going for it.  I watched the level 1 dvd tonight before I started dinner.  I also went through her tutorial.  She is really pushing her kettlebell that you can add and subtract weights too.   But that one is so out of my price range and I already bought one a couple months ago to use with a Self workout.
Wish me luck!!!!  I am starting it tomorrow night.  And I hope I can get in the workout 3 times a week for the next month but will be happy if I make it twice a week.

This weekend was  a busy one or rather yesterday was a busy one.
Saturday morning I went to a baby shower for S.  She got a lot of cute stuff for baby G.  Who I can't wait to arrive in 2 weeks.

Aunt Ruthie got a baby's first ornament as my gift.

I also finally made it down to the Grove and a game this year.  Why did I wait until it got cold?  And did a major no no, I wore jeans to the game.  I did dress them up with a sweater and cute boots.  It was probably only the second time I have ever done that.  The other time it was muddy and nasty and I didn't go to the grove for long.

R & I at the tent.

The grove.  It was pretty empty yesterday.  And so was the stadium.

A picture of the jumbo tron before the game.  An AC/DC video was playing.  I will totally admit that R and I left the game after the first quarter because we were cold and bored.  Yep we got bored watching football.  I can't remember that ever happening with me before.  We then hit the square for dinner and had a great time catching up.

Though I really wish I adjusted to the time change today as well as Belle seems to have done.  I hate the time change especially because now it means I won't see much sun for the next couple months.
I hope everyone had a great weekend.
